A Runner’s Alphabet—C Is for Confidence
C is for confidence.
Running well can be a huge boost to your self-confidence. We all like being able to do something well, something that we maybe didn’t think was possible for us. But confidence doesn’t suddenly appear by magic.
Confidence in anything you do takes work. I’ve already talked about two important ingredients in the confidence recipe: awareness and balance. You can add them to the mix as you work on your speed drills, hill drills, strength training (yes, with weights), and anything else in your own personal recipe for running with confidence.
In other words, the more you do, the more you do. And bit by bit, your confidence in yourself—in running and in anything else you do in life—will grow and flourish.
C can stand for a lot of other things: centering, control, consciousness, clarity, cheerfulness, and so on. I’m sure you have your own ideas. And yes, confidence can make your running more cheerful too!
Please feel free to send me any questions you might have. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
